Fanlore Entry of Rogue/Scott

Okay as some of you may or may not know, I've been trying on adding information to Fanlore, especially the X-Men fandom (plus various others I've been in), and one of the pages is of course Scott/Rogue:

http://fanlore.org/wiki/Rogue/Scott_Summers

Now it's not much yet but still I was hoping if anyone one has any particular fic, art or vid recs? Or opinions on particular sites you go to, that's not already listed. Anyone remember the Scott/Rogue MSN group from the early 2000s that I had? (I just barely remember it myself - I have such a bad memory anymore - I do think I named it the same as this group) or any other sites or events anyone remembers?

Any common tropes in fics that you find a lot or enjoy?

X-Men: Apocalypse Film Discussion

So what did everyone think of the film?

I actually liked the film a lot, I mean it still had stuff I would totally redo or remove but overall I think it was pretty good. Loved Cyclops!

Ultimate X-men: Scogue appearance??!?

So I'm currently working on adding X-Men information at FANLORE.org, and when I was starting Rogue's page, I went to check Wikipedia's page for her, and something made me look into the Other Versions of her, and look what I found:

"In Ultimate X-Men #80, Cyclops disbands the X-Men following Xavier's death. Rogue stays with Iceman at the Xavier Institute as a student. Xavier later returns and reveals himself to be alive. Rogue once again becomes an X-Man. At the end of Ultimate X-Men, a Banshee-enhanced Rogue is seen to be a member of Colossus' team. Her appearance heavily altered, it seems her abilities have been enhanced such that she can call on absorbed abilities, as she has Colossus' armored flesh and Angel's feathered wings extending from her arms. While telling Cyclops the benefits of Banshee she kisses him; when asked why, she replies "'Cause I can." (Ultimate X-Men #95)"

So this makes me want to read the Ultimate X-Men... like really badly. Even though this seems like a one time thing - never to be seen again. I can't even find any pictures of it so who knows if it actually happened (you know you can't trust Wiki 100%), so if anyone who has read the series can confirm this, this would be amazing news. IF it is, I'm totally going to try and find this issue at my local comic book store... Or just buy it off marvel.com.

James Marsden's interest in reprising his Cyclops role

Late last month, Get The Big Picture.net x-posted some "X-Men" cinema commentary from James Marsden. Apparently, the actor had expressed some interest in reprising his Cyclops role for a future spinoff film:

In an interview with ET Online, he said, "Because there were so many cast members in this 90 minute movie, there was never enough time to give him the depth that other characters had," he said. "The first movie was really Wolverine's saga - and the second and third as well. I don't think his character was ever fleshed out as much as I would have liked. I may have also been a bit on the young side for those films. If I could go back and put on the glasses and suit again where we do a film to learn more about the character, that's the one I would pick. He's ripe for that."

The entry is to be considered as an Open Discussion. For those interested in a counter-opinion, the OP wrote a rather sharp criticism about the prospects of a Cyclops-themed spin-off. In which case, feel free to agree or disagree in the Comments. Special thanks to the cyclops_fans comm.

I have to wonder about something...

Why is it that Marvel won't give this couple a chance? I have to scratch my head, because when you look at the amazing chemistry that Scott and Rogue had in X-Men Evolution, it just opens up a huge world of possiblities. Scott and Rogue have the most potential in my opinion, I mean, when you look at their struggles, they're the same. When you look at them, you can see something happen between them.

I think that Scott and Rogue could be soulmate material, they just need their chance.

I mean, this couple is probably the rarest X-Men couple I know, so it's really hard to find anything for them, so I'm rather pleased that at the end of X-Men Evolution where Rogue lands next to Scott was something deliberate. Scott and Rogue, when they are with each other, they feel freedom to be themselves.

They are sensitive souls, and sensitive souls need to be taken care of. Scott and Rogue could very well heal each other, and protect each other from further harm.

I would buy a Scogue book series in a hearbeat if Marvel actually did this!

A "Growing Pains" deleted scene

Apparently, the episode, "Growing Pains," contained a deleted scene, which can be viewed in the embedded YouTube video below.

Wikipedia offers a mini-synopsis about the scene's contents:

The DVD has a deleted scene where Avalanche is nearly killed by pushing Shadowcat away from a falling, burning mascot statue and she phases him out of the rubble. This event, along with the two becoming lab partners in the next episode, leads to the show's subplot of Lance and Kitty dating (much to their teams disapproval).
Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_X-Men:_Evolution_episodes

Having not seen the episode personally, my best theory is that the scene might have been cut for time. (As per my time with its Pokemon fare, Kids WB's formatting was exceptionally tight.) Regardless, the omission is jarring, as it foreshadowed the eventual Lance/Kitty subplot throughout the season. Fortunately, the Season 2 DVD set corrected the matter, albeit several years later.

If anyone wishes to discuss said scene's contents and/or the likely reasons for its original deletion, Comment away.

If I don't post again, have a good night.

Update (10/7): Flareonfury in the Comments cites series director Frank Paur's commentary, explaining that the real reason for editing was the immediate aftermath of 9/11.

"This was supposed to be the episode that helped to cement Kitty and Lance's ongoing, off going relationship. It’s why Kitty loved Lance. Lance is a dick; he’s from the wrong side of the tracks. You know. The classic rich girl poor boy romance thing. But at the height of his dickness, he endangers Kitty, and risks his own life to save hers. Unfortunately, the censor gremlins were busily at work ripping the guts out of the heart of the story. September 11 had freaked them out, and anything falling down on anyone in a cartoon made them wet their pants. Even though the act of heroism that follows is very uplifting and inspirational, the gremlins could not handle the idea that some kid somewhere might be upset at seeing a cartoon character in danger or risking their life to save someone else.

The consequences of this selective censorship, was that nobody understood the dynamics of the Kitty/Lance relationship. It seemed forced; a lot of people liked it, but they could not understand it, because they did not see the pivotal emotional moment in their lives. Lance saves Kitty’s life at the risk of his own. That is hard-core stuff for a teenager to go through. So, yes, there is a bonding that happened there. "

In hindsight, I should have known such reasoning, yet I apparently had a case of brain fog when I wrote the entry. Either way, my apologies.

"Growing Pains" Episode Discussion (X-Men Evo)

Here is where you can discuss the 2nd season premiere: the introduction of the New Mutants in "Growing Pains."

My review to come forthwith.

Nota bene: I'll be covering the X-Men Evolution Episode Discussions, as I once posted about doing way back. (Now complete with Mod permission.) I'm starting with "Growing Pains," as per its 10th anniversary (9/29/2001). Afterwards, I'll be posting the Discussion entries to match with the respective episode's original airdate. (For example, "Power Surge"'s will be done on this coming Thursday.) Due to life issues, last year, I was unable to handle the Season 1 fare. As such, expect a few back-dated entries while I work to correct my omission. Same can be said for this entry, as I actually forgot about it in real-time. My apologies, as I go thank Livejournal's malleable timecode.

The episode is available on Marvel's official YouTube channel, which is linked below. However, it is flagged under age verification, so bear that in mind when accessing.

Apparently, the episode has a deleted scene, which I'll post on, next.

Update: Said deleted scene can be viewed here:

Prompt needed (EVO)

Alright so for the X-Men Big Bang, one of the stories I'm working on is basically rewriting/filling-in-the-scenes-of-the-series with Scott/Rogue.

I hit a little snag though with one of the episodes. "Grim Reminder" is an episode that majorly deals with Logan & his past as well as Kitty's relationship with him, if you had forgotten. There are a few scenes that has Scott and Rogue in the episode, but I can not for the life of me think of a plot that have them together for the episode.

So if anyone has any suggestions or ideas that I can have at least a few scenes of Scott & Rogue interaction based in that episode - that would be amazing. Otherwise, I'd probably just skip that episode and just go on to The Cauldrons episodes.

Discussion: X-Men First Class (film)

So have you seen it yet?

Did you enjoy it? Hated it? Favorite characters? Favorite ships? What did you dislike about it?

I know it lacks Scott and Rogue directly, but it does feature Alex Summers (Havok) and Raven (Mystique), both characters relating to Scott & Rogue, although not really directly in this universe.

Below the cut and in the comments - it is quite possible that their MIGHT BE SPOILERS. KEEP THAT IN MIND. If you don't want to be spoiled for the film, stay out XD

An update involving "X-Men 4" is on the way.

A question of X-Men Evo Episode Discussions

(This is to the Mod, but anyone can comment about this, as well.)

With X-Men Evolution's 10th Anniversary, this past month, it might be a good time to maybe start posting official Episode Discussions. Per the anniversary's timing, I would suggest to start from the Season 1 episode anniversary airdates, incorporate them as part of the entry's timecode and work our way toward the series finale. (Fortunately, LJ's re-editing of the timecode will definitely help on the episode anniversaries that already passed us by. The airdates themselves can be found with our good friend, Wikipedia.)

I thought to put forth the notion, as A) the comm doesn't have them, B) X-Men Evolution is a major comm component, so it would make sense to do so and C) episodes are currently available at Disney XD. As such, it should help with any content droughts, as the next generation of X-Men Evo fans would be able to channel into that form of outlet. Not to mention, it would also allow the old-time fans to reminisice, so it's a decent two-fer.

I don't mind covering them, myself, as I have done for my other television related comms. However, if the Mod wants to do them and whatever way she chooses, it's all good.

If I didn't word things properly or convey myself clearly, I'll re-edit when I return online, next Tuesday.

Update (11/30): And so, I have amended a wording, here and there. It's just as well, for I didn't have time to double check when the entry was first posted. Apologies.

X-Men Legacy: Emplate TPB

For anyone interested for any Scott/Rogue interaction in the modern books, I recently came upon the "X-Men Legacy: Emplate" Trade Paperback. It covers "X-Men Legacy Annual #1" through Legacy issues #228-230, the arc entitled "The Devil at the Crossroads." It was released in around 2009-2010, so access shouldn't be a problem. For spoilers' sake, including the Scott/Rogue aspects, I'll insert the tidbits in a cut. Either way, Scott/Rogue fans/shippers should definitely give it a read, or two.

Open Discussion of "Wolverine and the X-Men"

My local library has the early volumes of "Wolverine and the X-Men" on DVD, and I have decided to give them a look. (I put off viewing the show for a while, so it was about time to do so.) I'm curious if anyone else on the comm is following the show, so the entry is to discuss on that. While I haven't formed my overall opinion, I must say the show is quite decent. (Admittedly, it isn't my first choice, as I am torn between Evo and the 90's version as my favorite.)

If anyone wishes to discuss on Scott and Rogue's roles, together or separate, sure. I do like their new uniforms, though, I have to question Scott's trenchcoat and maybe Rogue's short trio of ponytails. Heh. Of course, feel free to convince me otherwise.

Update (10/26): I should have clarified the DVDs cover only the first half of Season 1, so comment accordingly. Although, I plan to look for spoilers, eventually, so no worries.

"Self-Possessed" as the Scott/Rogue waning point?

In the previous entry, paradisekendra raised a fascinating point about the Scott/Rogue relationship, post-"Self-Possessed." (Forgive me if I took any major liberties, paradisekendra.)

LOL, well, as a W/R (Wolverine/Rogue) shipper as well as a Scott/Rogue shipper, "Self-Possessed" didn't lose many points with me other than the inconsistency of Scott practically ceasing to be in her life after that for the glory of Jean Grey.
Link: http://community.livejournal.com/scottandrogue/13925.html?thread=12645#t12645

Granted, I haven't seen the series for some time, though, I don't recall any other demonstative Scott/Rogue fare beyond "S-P." Of course, many, including myself, have said about the pairing's apparent lack of closure. (Another topic for another time.) I never thought "S-P" would ever be the finale to either the pairing or their overall interactions, but it seems that way in retrospect.

My closest theory is the writers were so busy with the upcoming fourth season and the cramming of comic canon that they had to drop the ball somewhere. I will do my dry analysis on the issue at a future date, but I wanted to get things started, via this informal style entry. Meanwhile, feel free to opine/comment/analyze in the Comments.

A "Self-Possessed" hypothetical

It goes without saying that "Self-Possessed" was one of the series' best Rogue-centric episodes. (As I recall, the animation team submitted it for Emmy considerations in 2003.) Nevertheless, there may have been a wasted opportunity, vis-a-vis, Scott's role. In the climax, Logan was the driving force to subdue Rogue's unintended rampage. (It was also touched upon quite tenderly in the final scene.) Logan was the best choice for many reasons, yet Scott's contribution could have more substantial by comparison.

The episode's theme of Rogue's lack of control would have fit perfectly and subtly with Scott, per his powers. (One of these days, there should be analysis on the use of daily objects to prevent their respective powers, such as his sunglasses and her clothing.) Logan's role shouldn't be diminished by any means, so a shared role might been the best option. For what it is worth, Scott had a decent role, along with proper interaction with Rogue (i.e., their squash game in the teaser).

The entry is not for pure shipper promotion, but for addressing potential storytelling enhancement. (Of course, the counterargument is "why tamper with perfection?" It is a strong one, due to "Self-Possessed"'s high quality.) Regardless, it is a hypothetical that ought to be posed, and apt for the comm's 50th entry.

Update (9/16): I did my usual word choice and sentence revisions, as promised, yesterday.
