From Toonzone:

"Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television, introduced Marvel’s new line of cartoons debuting on G4. With stories by Warren Ellis, Iron Man (starring Adrian Pasdar), Wolverine (starring Milo Ventimiglia), The X-Men, and Blade have been given the anime treatment by Madhouse Inc. A sneak peek of the X-Men anime showed the team facing off against the Phoenix, with visual designs from Joss Whedon and John Cassaday's Astonishing X-Men run and Scott Porter starring as Cyclops. Loeb also presented a full episode of Wolverine based around the hero's encounter with the villain Omega Red. Iron Man and Wolverine premiered on G4 on July 23, 2011."

Scott Porter, as people may or may not know was Jason Street on NBC's Friday Night Lights and appeared other shows/movies, and as stated above is voicing Scott. I haven't heard him speak so I don't know how much I'll like him but I hope I will. Interesting enough, Porter will also voice a character for X-men: Destiny, Adrian Luca.

Wolverine is going to be voiced by Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes, Gilmore Girls) - I'll have to hear him act Logan to believe it.

You can find a picture of the X-Men team HERE - Cyclops, Prof X, Armor, Beast, Storm and Wolverine are featured. If you go to the Japanese site you can find a better quality image and a trailer for the show. It the one that has been floating around youtube for awhile now. I have to say I like Scott's look - except for the v-shaped shirt. I'm sad that neither Rogue or Emma Frost will be in it... but maybe it'll have a second season or something?

ALSO just learned that Cyclops will also appear (probably shortly) on the Wolverine show/film.

About time, as per the current Cyclops embargo in First Class. The last animated version of him was Wolverine and the X-Men, I think? Can't wait.

Boy, the fangirls are going to lots of fun with anime! Cyclops on Deviantart. Heh. As they should, as he... okay, I think he looks a little like Yu-Gi-Oh's Seto Kaiba.

... that's just last year's anime series getting imported to the US - it's not that new. And sadly, the x-men series wasn't very good.

New enough for my tastes. And I'll bite -- what didn't you like about it?

well, on the plus side, the production values are very good. The animation and the soundtrack are great.

On the negative side; the plot is pretty boring and completely lacks a hook, the pacing is terrible; the direction lacklustre and frequently making very little sense (lots of people standing around having repetitive conversation while the villains do important stuff that, maybe, they should be thinking to stop, yknow?) and especially bad for the action scenes with a rather ridiculous lack of what tactics look like for the x-men; and the characterisation is... well either the characters are one note and pretty stereotypical (Wolverine, Scott, Hisako), either they have no personality at all (Beast, Storm, most of the OCs).

It also tends to the melodrama; though I don't really mind that, and works well with X-Men; or would have is the storytelling and characters had been more interesting.

The animation is good news, after being used to limited budget Japanese animation or overuse of CGI (looking at you, Pokemon).

I did tend to find Japanese writing hit or miss, by and large. Such as for every plot episode, add 5-7 filler episodes to compensate. There are other flaws in such writing (same with Western writing, as both have strengths and weaknesses), though, I'll have to think about them at a later date.

As for tactics, can you give an example, as most writers on either side of the Pacific aren't exactly military tacticians?

X-Men wouldn't be where it is without melodrama. Heh. I don't mind it, as long as it's good, of course.

I'm not sure what sort of Japanese animation you are familiar with, asides from Pokemon ^_^;; they have a great diversity of quality and styles, and your average lowgrade action show for a young boys demographic like Pokemon isn't really the best example of what they can do. I'm a very regular watcher of anime; so when I criticised the x-men anime it's with that background in mind.

as most writers on either side of the Pacific aren't exactly military tacticians?
err, I mean stuff that shows up in comics, in terms of the team member cooperating, depending on their power, in order to be efficient? In the anime they seem to be preventing one another from fully acting more than the opposite.

Fair enough, as I haven't watched more recent fare than I probably should. Mostly for time or lack of interest. While Pokemon itself has been improved in its Black/White arc, it may not have been the best example. And to answer your question about my frame of reference, my main focus is mostly on the classics (Sailor Moon, Gatchaman). Debating about the other Marvel anime that has debuted on G-4, as I'm curious about Iron Man.

Gotcha about the tactics. Hate when that happens.
